Be Grateful to Everyone - Story from Buddha’s Life

Now that nobody is responsible for your misery except you, if it is all your own doing, then what is left? BE GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE. Because everybody is creating a space for you to be transformed -- even those who think they are obstructing you, even those whom you think are enemies. Your friends, your enemies, good people and bad people, favorable circumstances, unfavorable circumstances -- all together they are creating the context in which you can be transformed and become a buddha. Be grateful to all. A man once came and spat on Buddha, on his face.Buddha wiped his face and said to the man, "Thank you, sir. You created a context in which I could see whether I can still be angry or not. And I am not, and I am tremendously happy. And also you created a context for Ananda: now he can see that he can still be angry. Many thanks, we are so grateful! Once in a while, please, you are invited to come. Whenever you have the urge to spit on somebody, you can come to us." It...

Let’s all stop spreading negativity

Once upon a time, two young boys were playing on thin ice. As they were playing, one of them fell through that ice into the lake underneath. The other one tried hard and he couldn't reach his friend through that gap. So he walked up to a tree, pulled and broke a branch of enormous size. He came back and started beating the ice and he saved his friend. When the paramedics came and they were able to revive the kid, they were baffled and they couldn't understand that how did his friend break an enormous sized branch and then beat the ice and save his friend. They thought it was IMPOSSIBLE Then the old man who was standing there said, "I can tell you how he did it." They said, "How? How he did he do it." The old man said, "There was no one here to tell him that he can't do it.". Let’s all stop spreading negativity and start from this moment to say ‘Yes, You Can Do It”.

Life's Choices : A Moral Story

There once lived a great mathematician in a village outside Ujjain. He was often called by the local king to advice on matters related to the economy. His reputation had spread as far as Taxila in the North and Kanchi in the South. So it hurt him very much when the village headman told him, "You may be a great mathematician who advises the king on economic matters but your son does not know the value of gold or silver." The mathematician called his son and asked, "What is more valuable - gold or silver?" "Gold," said the son. "That is correct. Why is it then that the village headman makes fun of you, claims you do not know the value of gold or silver? He teases me every day. He mocks me before other village elders as a father who neglects his son. This hurts me. I feel everyone in the village is laughing behind my back because you do not know what is more valuable, gold or silver. Explain this to me, son." So the son of the mathematician told his...

Life is beautiful with friends and family

A man, who regularly attended meetings with his friends, suddenly without any notice stopped participating. After a few weeks, one very cold night the leader of that group decided to visit him. He found the man at home, alone, sitting in front of a fireplace where a bright and cozy fire burned. The man welcomed the leader. There was a great silence. The two men only watched the dancing flames around the logs that crackled in the fireplace. After a few minutes the leader, without saying a word, examined the embers that formed and selected one of them, glowing most brightly of all, removing it to the side with a pair of tongs. Then he sat down again. The host was paying attention to everything, fascinated. Before long, the lone ember flame subsided, until there was only a momentary glow & the fire soon went out. In a short time what was previously bright light and heat had become nothing more than a black & dead piece of coal. Very few words had been spoken since the greeting. Be...

Deep Thoughts

When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison. To me, “drink responsibly” means don’t spill it. When I say, “The other day,” I could be referring to any time between yesterday and 15 years ago. Interviewer: “So, tell me about yourself.” Me: “I’d rather not. I kinda want this job.” I remember being able to get up without making sound effects. I had my patience tested. I’m negative. Remember, if you lose a sock in the dryer, it comes back as a Tupperware lid that doesn’t fit any of your containers. If you’re sitting in public and a stranger takes the seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say “Did you bring the money?” When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say “nothing,” it does not mean I am free. It means I am doing nothing. Age 60 might be the new 40, but 9:00 is new midnight. I finally got eight hours of sleep. It took me three days, but whatever. I run like the winded. I hate when a couple argues in public, and I miss...

Joy of Giving is much better than the joy of Taking

Once a teacher and his student went out for a walk. After walking a while they reached a farm where student saw a pair of old torn shoes which seemed to be belonged to poor farmer who was just preparing to get back to his home after a whole day of hard work. Seeing this student thought of an idea to have fun and said, "Master, We don't we hide these shoes behind bushes and wait for farmer to come. It would be fun to watch his reaction when he will not be able to find his shoes...!! " Teacher felt bad, looked at his student and said, "Son, it's not good to play such cruel joke with a poor person." Teacher thought for a moment and then with a smile on his face he said, "Son, I have a better idea... Why don't we just put some coins in each of his shoes and hide behind bushes and then see how farmer will react when he find these coins in his torn shoes?" Student just wanted to see reaction of poor farmer so he did what his teacher asked him to do a...
